A transfer cart is a material handling tool used inside factories to move heavy materials and equipment. Its function is similar to forklifts and cranes. However, due to its flexible and customizable design, it can adapt to about 80% of different working environments.
For businesses, the key question is whether it is suitable for their factory conditions and material handling requirements. So, is it worth purchasing?
This is a common concern for many factory owners. They worry about investing in equipment that may not be practical, and they are also highly concerned about the safety of heavy-duty material handling. The answer is simple: if your workshop involves heavy material handling, an electric transfer cart is absolutely worth purchasing, and its safety performance is more reliable than you might expect.

Below are two real-world case studies of customized transfer carts for reference:
The first example is a customized order from a Romanian customer for mold handling in their workshop. The customer required a trackless design, eliminating the need for rail installation and reducing infrastructure costs.
The rated load capacity is 10 tons, which perfectly matches the weight of their molds. The cart dimensions are 3 meters in length and 2 meters in width, making it suitable for maneuvering through workshop aisles. The differential steering system allows easy turning, including U-turns in limited spaces, making it much more flexible than a forklift and suitable for narrow working areas.
Safety is a key priority. The cart is equipped with high-grip rubber wheels, which prevent slipping even on slightly oily workshop floors. The rubber wheels also provide cushioning, reducing vibration when transporting heavy and precision molds and preventing damage.
The structure is reinforced with a heavy-duty frame designed to withstand a 10-ton load without deformation. An emergency stop button is installed to immediately cut off power in case of an emergency or operational error, reducing accident risks.
The cart is powered by a battery system with a high-capacity 200Ah battery, providing long working endurance. Under normal usage, it can support continuous operation for several days. With proper maintenance, the battery lifespan is typically 3–5 years.
The second case is a more advanced customized solution for a Turkish steel processing company. The customer needed to transport 15-ton steel coils, requiring both horizontal movement and vertical lifting, eliminating the need for a crane and improving efficiency.
The platform size was fully customized according to the steel coil dimensions provided by the customer. A specially designed V-shaped platform structure was added to ensure that the coils remain stable during transportation and lifting, preventing rolling or slipping.
This cart includes more advanced safety functions. In addition to an emergency stop system, it is equipped with overload protection. If the load exceeds 15 tons, the system automatically locks and prevents operation, reducing the risk of tipping caused by overloading.
The lifting system also features dual safety protection. In the event of a power failure, the platform can descend smoothly and safely without sudden drops, protecting both the load and operators.
The trackless design allows the cart to move freely throughout the workshop without fixed routes, offering greater flexibility compared to overhead cranes.

So, what types of transfer carts are available, and how do you choose the right one for your factory?
Generally speaking, heavy-duty transfer carts can be divided into two main categories.
Just like the case we showed above, this type of cart does not require any rail system or additional towing equipment.
It can run directly on the factory floor, including epoxy flooring. At PEISA, we call this the DWP Series Trackless Transfer Cart.
There are several clear advantages.
First, it's flexible and easy to move.
It can travel freely between different workshops without being restricted by fixed rails, so you have much more flexibility when moving heavy materials around your factory.
Second, it's reliable and easy to maintain.
It's a mature product with a low failure rate, typically less than 3% under normal operating conditions.
Third, there are different driving and steering options.
Whether your factory has a large open space or a relatively limited working area, we can choose a suitable solution based on your site conditions.
Normally, we recommend a hydraulic steering system for trackless carts.
But if your working space is very limited, you can choose an omnidirectional transfer cart. It can move in different directions and even rotate 360 degrees in place, which makes it much easier to operate in tight spaces.
And fourth, you can add different functions to the platform.
For example, we can add a lifting system, V-shaped frame, U-shaped groove, A-frame, and other customized structures according to what you need to transport.

A rail transfer cart is a very economical solution when you have a fixed transportation route.
It runs on fixed rails, and the rails guide the cart during operation.
And because of this rail-guided structure, rail transfer carts can handle extremely heavy loads.
Depending on the application, the capacity can reach 500 tons, 1,000 tons, or even more.
However, the limitation is also quite obvious.
Since the cart follows a fixed rail system, it is not suitable for freely moving between different workshops, and it is difficult to change the transportation route once the rails have been installed.
So,when choosing between a trackless transfer cart and a rail transfer cart, the key question is:
Do you need flexibility, or do you have a fixed transportation route?
If you need flexible movement and want to avoid installing rails, a trackless transfer cart may be the better choice.
If you have a fixed route and need to move extremely heavy loads on a regular basis, a rail transfer cart is usually the more economical solution.

If your factory still relies on manual labor or forklifts for heavy material handling—resulting in low efficiency and safety risks—then investing in a transfer cart is definitely worthwhile.
Trackless electric transfer carts do not require rail installation, making infrastructure costs low. They offer strong load capacity, high customization flexibility, and significant improvements in efficiency. The reduction in labor and time costs allows for a fast return on investment.
From a safety perspective, there is no need for concern. Modern transfer carts are equipped with multiple safety systems, including anti-slip rubber wheels, V-frame structures, overload protection, emergency stop systems, sound and light alarms, emergency braking, obstacle detection sensors, reinforced chassis, and dual braking systems, ensuring comprehensive operational safety.
